It started with two brothers and a book.
When I moved from New Jersey to California, I left more than home behind. My little brother was still in high school, and I wanted to find a way for us to stay connected despite the distance.
So I proposed something simple: our own book club.
A shared story could give us common ground. Something to read, understand, and come back together to talk about.
Our first book was The Alchemist.
When we finished, we did exactly that. We exchanged thoughts, interpretations, and lessons from the story. Somewhere in that conversation, my brother asked me a simple question:
“Why do you love books so much?”
My answer was just as simple:
“Because books be lit.”
And just like that, there was a name for something that had always been bigger than books.
Books can bridge distance.
Books can create conversation.
Books can give us common ground.
Books Be Lit. was born from that belief. Today, we're building a community around it.
